FAQ
Where are you?
We arrived in Bangladesh late at night on April 16, 2025! We are living near a neighbourhood called Gulshan 2, in Dhaka.
What are you doing there?
We are working with The Salvation Army Bangladesh, Territorial Headquarters. Jahred is the Programme Coordinator, supporting the 35 corps (churches) across the country with their ministries, national level youth programming, and resource creation. Jessica is the Development Officer, managing various community development and health projects going on across the country, while reporting and partnering with donor territories.
How long will you be there?
We have a 3-year contract with a potential for extension. We are open to staying however long God calls us to!
Why Bangladesh?
Even before meeting each other we both had a heart for, and felt a calling to, cross-cultural ministry. Jahred was working in various ministry roles at both our local corps and The Salvation Army Canada Territorial Headquarters. He completed a graduate degree in Ethnomusicology intending to use the ethnography of music as a gateway to better understand how God works in people’s everyday life. Jessica had completed a graduate degree in Global Health with international development in mind. She was wanting to transition more squarely into the Global Health field with a focus on project management, when the opportunity opened up in Bangladesh. We felt the Lord was opening the door and providing direction for both of us to utilize our passions and gifts to make a meaningful impact in the world, and to further His kingdom.
Fun fact: Jahred lived in Bangladesh from 2005-2008, while his dad worked with Sally Ann Limited, the fair trade store of The Salvation Army, Bangladesh.
What was the process for moving overseas?
We first heard about this opportunity during the summer of 2024. We submitted our initial application for International Appointments with The Salvation Army Canada in July, and had follow-up interviews and meetings through to September.
We received official news that our appointments to Bangladesh had been approved by International Headquarters on January 20, 2025. The proposed timeline was:
- Work with our current employers until February 21
- Complete brief orientation meetings with the THQ in Canada from February 24-28
- Move out of our apartment by the end of February
- Attend pre-departure training in Colorado from March 15-April 12
- Depart for Bangladesh shortly after.
